A major US law firm's Tokyo data center needed a UPS upgrade, better earthquake resistance, and a thorough cleanup of accumulated cable and equipment. eSolia managed the project from planning through execution — coordinating construction, electrical, cabling, and testing teams within a tight 40-hour weekend window.

What Needed Solving
The existing UPS equipment had reached end of life. Earthquake resistance in the data center was inadequate. Years of changes had left old cables and decommissioned equipment still in the racks, consuming space. Labeling was inconsistent, making troubleshooting slower than it should have been. There was no room left in the racks for new equipment.
What We Did
We upgraded the UPS to a redundant APC Symmetra LX 8KVa system with two-hour runtime. Bolstering earthquake proofing required removing all equipment and racks, reinforcing the floor and mountings, and reinstalling the entire data center. We removed old equipment and cables, reorganized rack layouts to create space for growth, and implemented consistent labeling throughout.
The project took a long time to plan because of the many teams involved — project management, construction, electrical, cabling, and testing — all needed to coordinate around the busy schedules of legal professionals who couldn't afford extended downtime.
